John, you are losing touch with real issues in the world like paying for food, gas, and a roof over our head. SOme people don't pay bills because they can't. Hello????ou too uneducated to know what effects an economic downfall has on one's ability to pay bills that have gone to a collection agency. Get a life!! Get a job that pays more than minimum wage and if you got off your lzay a$$ and did not live at home with Mommy, maybe you wouldn't be able to pay your bills either!!

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!!
What should you do if a debt collector is intimidating or harassing you?
(1) Find out if the collector is violating the FDCPA or your state's laws. If so, send the collector a certified letter, return receipt requested, telling them that you believe he is in violation of the FDCPA or your state's laws; and, if you want
(2) Tell the debt collector you want him to stop phoning you at home and at work.
(3) You can file a complaint online at www.ftc.gov. The FTC is the body in charge of regulating debt collection agencies. They will not handle your case personally, but you should report the agency anyway, since they will sanction the agency if it receives enough complaints from consumers.
(4) Report the activity to your State Attorney General's office. They will investigate the matter.
(5) You can also gather evidence by recording phone conversations with the debt collection agency. If you can prove the debt collector used illegal tactics, you can sue for damages under the FDCPA.
38 states DO NOT Require you to let the debt collector know that they are being recorded. AND if they say that "In the state of XYZ we CAN call you at home just not at work". WELL Under FEDERAL LAW they are considered to be a 3rd party collector so YOU CAN ask them to stop calling you at home. The only time that does'nt apply is if they are the ORIGINAL creditor.

I work at IC System and I am proud of it.
I listen to debtors all day, and there are some people that are really in a bind and I try to help them out by listening and finding ways they can resolve there financial woes. But there are some debtors out there that are self centered and lazy. They acquire numerous bills and don't care who they owe. For all the people that complain that we call too much...get off your butts and pay your bills. You could make some attempt, but you won't. So in turn the doctors and other medical professionals have to raise there rates to compensate for your sorry ***. What is so hard about getting a part-time job temporarily to help pay some your bills. Will it cut into your T.V. time, or your time at the bar? If you can't pay it in full, then make a payment arrangement. Quit being so stupid. I can always tell the people who are honest about the bill because they try to resolve it. It is called being responsible. And for those of you who claim "insurance". Take the time to read the agreement you sign when you go into the doctors office. They tell you that you are responsible after 30 days if the insurance doesn't pay. Take it out on the insurance if they don't pay, not the medical professionals, and definitely not us. Insurances will stall making your payments just to make a little money for themselves. Now that I have vented, please understand, not all of you are bad people, but for God's sake pull your heads out of your *** and get with the program. The reason the economy is the way it is comes from people not paying their bills. Look in the mirror when you want to blame someone for your bad credit report. If you have moved, go to the post office and fill out a forwarding address slip. Not too hard for some people out there that have some form of education. I do wish all of the best of luck. God Bless and take care.
